Abstract
Empirical works have generated mixed findings about whether and why younger employees are more entitled. Authors integrate life span theory and socialization theory to propose that younger employees are not necessarily more entitled than their older counterparts; it depends on how they are raised by their parents. Only those with permissive parents display higher levels of entitlement. Also proposed is a joint effect of employee age and their parents’ parenting style on their task performance via psychological entitlement. Results based on 2 field studies support propositions.
