Abstract
The eighth season of the avant-garde music series “VANG. Músicas en Vanguardia” offers a journey through music that transforms our perception of time and sound. Each concert creates a space where time and sound expand, intensify or become transparent.
The selected composers all share a radical independence which stems from both personal experiences and stubborn outlooks which suggest different ways to inhabit sound and which build a bridge between contemplation and vertigo..
Gérard Grisey's Vortex Temporum (1994-1996), a seminal work of contemporary music, deploys whirling arpeggios that transform through different tempos, from human rhythms to extreme speeds inspired by nature, bending and stretching our perception of time. Alongside it, Mercedes Zavala's Bipolar (2022) explores extreme contrasts of tone, dynamics and gesture, confronting two musical universes in tension
