    Abstract

The notion of value has a long history in social science, ranging from financial worth to subjective desirability. The empirical study of values reveals difficulty in clear specification of the concept and indifferent correlation between values and behavior. In those social theories that privilege culture the concept of value has tended to perform a key role. In the work of Talcott Parsons and also Max Weber in particular “value” has a defining quality, although different in each.
