Abstract

This article gives an account of Su Ching’s scholarship in the field of historical studies of Chinese Christianity. In his higher degree theses, Su Ching writes a thick narrative of the history of printing presses of the London Missionary Society in its China mission, which also covers the lives and times of leading missionaries as well as Chinese co-workers and converts. Subsequently, he expands his research scope to include other missionary societies and their contributions, such as church ministry, education, medicine, as well as translating and editing. His studies provide substances for a fuller understanding of the history of Chinese Christianity in the 19th century. He is meticulous in his use of historical sources so that he makes revisions to some false opinions in the field. His contributions to this field of study are significant.
