Abstract

The relationship between personality traits and leadership outcomes has long been a central topic in leadership research. While scholars have increasingly leveraged advanced machine learning methods to uncover complex, curvilinear relationships between Big Five traits and leadership role occupancy, methodological limitations have left their findings open to further validation. In this study, we further address this issue by employing improved datasets and state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms. Our analysis reveals novel patterns in the relationship between Big Five traits and leadership role occupancy, diverging from prior research. Specifically, we identify nuanced, non-linear associations that challenge conventional interpretations. These findings not only advance our understanding of how personality traits shape leadership emergence but also provide a more robust methodological framework for future research. By integrating innovative computational approaches with leadership theory, this study contributes significantly to the traits-based leadership literature, offering new insights into the complex interplay between individual differences and leadership emergence.
