Abstract

This double-sided screen, created for the "Loong Legacies" Chinese Cultural Art and Design Exhibition, is a harmonious fusion of traditional and contemporary design. One side features a classic Chinese double dragon motif, while the other showcases a modern interpretation through a three-dimensional wood veneer marquetry technique. This duality allows the screen to seamlessly adapt to diverse spaces and settings.

Crafted from natural materials, the artwork celebrates the beauty and power of nature. The sun motif symbolizes positive energy and upward momentum. The design, both culturally enriching and spatially efficient, incorporates wave and fruit patterns, representing strength and abundance, particularly auspicious in the Year of the Dragon. Subtle phoenix elements woven into the composition symbolize gender equality and mutual support, further emphasizing cultural inclusivity and balance.

More than just an artistic expression, "Twirling Serpent, Plentiful Harvest" serves as a bridge between tradition and innovation, aiming to raise awareness about cultural heritage preservation and sustainable development. Through this work, I invite viewers to appreciate the harmonious dialogue between past and present, and to recognize the importance of safeguarding our shared cultural legacy.
