Abstract

1. HIV-1 can infect CD34+ progenitor stem cells and become latent.
2. Latent HIV-1 can affect the CD34 cell to halt homeostasis.
3. HIV-1–infected CD34+ progenitors may be a vehicle for viral dissemination.
