Abstract
The transition of Hong Kong into a digital, smart, and sustainable city
is discussed in this chapter, along with the positive and negative
aspects associated with it, as Hong Kong is moving toward adopting a
paradigm that is people-centric to provide better urban services. A
comprehensive review of policies and future guidelines has been
executed, encompassing a wide range of sources, including governmental,
non-governmental, and commercial entities, as well as researchers and
academics. Through the adoption of information and technology (I&T)
for many years, the city has evolved into a living laboratory, thereby
establishing Hong Kong as a mission-driven, globally recognized, and
technologically sophisticated city. To ensure a successful outcome, it
is necessary to prioritize the smart city pyramid. When it comes to
smart cities in Hong Kong, the development and potential of a wide
variety of attributes are still in the preliminary phases at present.
The administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region
(HKSAR) has demonstrated a strong determination to encourage the
development of a sustainable, technologically advanced, and globally
integrated urban hub for the betterment of future generations. During
the process of tracking the efficiency of smart cities in Hong Kong, the
government is required to perform periodic updates and premieres of
information technology applications, smart mobility, and smart business,
respectively.
