Abstract
In a three-level atom embedded in a photonic band gap structure, the spontaneous emission is studied both with and without rotating-wave approximation. The virtual-photon-localized field is found, which causes a greater population of the atom trapped in its upper states. (C) 1999 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
