Abstract

Laser-induced fluorescence excited from the HgBr (B2∑-X 2∑) bands has been used to determine the vibrational distribution of HgBr (X2∑) photofragments of the photodissociation of HgBr2 at 193 nm. The fraction of HgBr molecules initially formed in the B2∑ state was determined to be 60-10 +15%. The remaining 40-15+10% of molecules directly formed in the HgBr (X2∑) ground electronic state constitutes an important channel for photodissociation at 193 nm.
