Abstract

The revelation of the idea and rapid emergence of the semantic web technology has placed the paradigms of knowledge acquisition and knowledge representation at the centre of artificial intelligence research. This shift in focus has immensely increased the usefulness of the resources provided by epistemic logic, that is, logic of knowledge, belief and information. By means of epistemic we are able to address some major conceptual problems in the foundations of knowledge acquisition and representation. I will take up a couple of issues related to (I) the problem of the property of omniscience in logical approaches to knowledge, (ii) question-answering systems and the semantics of questions, and (iii) the role model theory plays in the semantic web technology. To this effect, I will examine possible worlds and interrogative games and outline a framework for logical assets of knowledge that can be predicted to become increasingly important in the semantic web research.
