Abstract

Currently, the gender issue seems to be an emerging agenda on social media, especially Weibo, in China. Therefore, the opinion landscape of controversial gender issues on Weibo was investigated. More specifically, the characteristics of public participation, main agendas and notable themes around the discussions and sentiments of the discussions were explored. 79,583 Weibo posts related to the influential comedian YANG Li were taken as research objects and computer-assisted content analysis was conducted in this study.
