Abstract

This study investigates the impact of news engagement, self-efficacy, and fake news detection on media credibility perception among Hong Kong residents. A CATI survey of 603 randomly selected adults was conducted during the peak of Covid pandemic in the community. Results show that active information seekers are more likely to trust the media they use regularly, a relationship moderated by self-efficacy and fake news detection, whereas self-efficacy moderates the relationship for passive processors.
