Abstract

In the dynamic realm of sports, teamwork and players’ motivation are crucial for team success. Shared leadership, “a dynamic, interactive lateral influence process among individuals in groups for which the objective is to lead one another to the achievement of group or organizational goals or both” (Pearce & Conger, 2002, p.1) has gained increasing attention from researchers and practitioners since its collaborative nature, wherein multiple team members take on leadership responsibilities, resulting in favorable effects on teams’ overall outcomes like team cohesion (Imam & Zaheer, 2021), motivational climate (Wood, 2005), collective efficacy (Pearce & Conger, 2002). The primary purposes of the current study were to investigate the mediating effects of shared leadership between motivational climate and team cohesion in the context of intercollegiate sports in Hong, characterized by a recreational sports emphasis as opposed to the competitive nature of the United States.
