    Abstract

In the collected works of the Early Tang poet Chen Ziang 陳子昂 (661–702) one finds thirty-eight poems entitled “Ganyu” 感遇, in
“ancient style” pentasyllabic verses. These poems have long been
viewed as Chen’s representative works and have served to a large
extent as the basis for seeing him as an “innovator” in the history
    of Chinese poetry.
