Abstract

We utilize topic models to illustrate online discourse surrounding emerging AI in China, where most latest releases of reknown AI are restricted. We differentiate between in-group discussions within tech-focused communities and public discussions among regular users on Weibo. Our study reveals a mix of enthusiasm for AI’s potential applications and concerns about ethics and legality. Overcoming access restrictions is also a prominent topic, which is absent in extant research on online discourse within LLM community.
