    Abstract

Technology affords a plethora of possibilities to enhance and transform teaching in higher education. Over the last few years, the kinds of digital tools available and the conceptualization of new innovative pedagogical models provide higher education teachers with a "Digital Disneyland" of options. These have made things possible that were not possible before, such as synchronous online teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, in many instances, technology-enhanced teaching has had unintended consequences. Notably, increases in workload for teachers and students alike.

In this talk, I will argue that we need to prioritize sustainability within our technology-enhanced teaching practices in higher education. I will pose the question "What technology-enhanced practices 'add value' to students' learning experiences and academic development, but do not have a disproportionately negative effect on teachers' and students' workload?"

Drawing on my own practices and teaching context, I will share several practices that can maximize the added value of technology while minimizing the workload for teachers and students.
