Abstract
In this paper, a comparative study was performed on the microscopic characteristics of setae in the two sourcing species of ground beetle and their two counterfeits. The appearance of the ovoid, oblate or conical shaped stubby setae in the powder of Steleophaga plancyi, the large thick setae, which have serrate protuberance on one side, in that of Cybister tripunctatus orientalis and the blunt and biforked tip macrotrichia in that of Opisthoplatia orientalis could be compiled as a useful index in identification of ground beetle and its counterfeits. Following the previous report about Cordyceps Sinensis, the method of identifying animal drugs from their counterfeits by the remnant hair is reconfirmed.
