Abstract

Ultrasmall size Rh nanoparticles were synthesized and stabilized by the complex of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide and water-soluble ionic liquid molecules. The new catalytic system shows excellent catalytic activity in the oxidation of alcohols to aldehydes or ketones only in pure water through acceptorless dehydrogenation. It is atom economic, clean and green in the synthesis of aldehydes or ketones and H2 production at the same time.
