Abstract

This essay attempts to connect China with -i-ek's theoretical ideas by discussing the multiple meanings of sinicization that brings forth self-negating contradictions. Arguing that contemporary postsocialist China's rapid and ruthless capitalization urgently calls for the realization of socialism more than ever, the essay also points out how China's problems precisely pose a challenge to -i-ek's emancipatory politics and even become the radical externalization of his theory.
