Abstract

The interaction of N,N′-bis[o-(diphenylphosphino)benzylidene]ethylenediamine (immpho) with one and two equivalents of [(η5-C5Me5)Ru(CH3CN) 3]+ (generated in situ from the reaction of [(η5-C5Me5)RuCl2]n with excess Zn granular in CH3CN) in CH3CN at room temperature gave [(η5-C5Me5)Ru(immpho)] 2[ZnCl4] (I) and {[(η5-C5Me5)Ru(CH3CN)] 2[immpho]}{ZnCl4} (II) in 80% and 71% yield, respectively. Upon UV irradiation, immpho reacted with equal molar of [(η5C5H5)Fe(η 6-mesitylene)][BF4] in CH3CN at room temperature to give [(η5-C5H5)Fe(immpho)][BF4] (III) in 41% yield. Compounds I-III have been fully characterized by analytical and spectroscopic methods. The structures of II and III have been established by X-ray diffraction.
