Abstract

This book unpacks the role of memorials as artefacts of post-crisis communication.

Drawing on real-life cases from around the world, the book exemplifies how emotion affects crisis communication and how memorials could be used to help people cope with the trauma of a crisis. Situating crisis communication in the context of Public Relations, the manuscript examines how organizations can communicate more effectively and proposes ways to enhance the wellbeing of victims and non-victims by means of ethical post-crisis communication. The author integrates the study of memorials in other disciplines with a specific focus and application in crisis communication, discussing the importance of internal crisis communication for both organizations and employees. Presenting and critiquing existing post-crisis communication rhetoric, this volume proposes ways to enhance ethical communication with care to facilitate healing for stakeholders affected by a severe crisis.
