Political Regimes and Electoral Protest Cycles: A Global Analysis of the Post-Cold War Period

Abstract

This paper explores the dynamics of protests by focusing on regime types and national election cycles. Global statistical analysis (1990-2020) reveals that protests are most likely to occur in autocracies on polling days.
