Abstract
In an era where technology plays a crucial role in cultural preservation, 3D scanning has emerged as a transformative tool. This technology facilitates the detailed documentation of cultural artefacts and environments, empowering communities to actively engage in preserving their heritage. This paper explores how participatory 3D scanning methods can foster community involvement, preserve collective memory, and create physical exhibitions enriched with speculative narratives. The discussion is grounded in the research-led, socially engaged art tech project, Foreseen 2099, a year-long initiative focused on six traditional small businesses in Hong Kong. Commissioned by Nan Fung Group, the project encompasses both a digital archive and a physical exhibition.
