Abstract
This paper examines the socio-political divisions that exist within the Kingdom of Sweden, in order to provide an analytical insight into the positioning of Swedish parties during the election campaign for seats in the Parliament of the Kingdom of Sweden (in the Riksdag), which consequently contributes to the understanding of the election results achieved by the parties there. Therefore, the first objective of the paper is to provide an analysis of election programs and results, while the second goal of the research seeks to identify dependent and independent variables that contributed to the political positioning and the consequent success/failure of the eight largest Swedish parties in the parliamentary elections held in September 2022. In this sense, using the method of discourse analysis and the method of document/data analysis, different ways of positioning parties of the right and left during the election campaign are studied, whereby the theory of party classification is taken as the theoretical framework; The Theory of Social Divisions. It is based on the hypothesis that the election campaigns of Swedish parties were most influenced by the need to define themselves according to two topics; Immigration and health and education reform. The results of the survey indicate that Swedish parties - in order to achieve positive election results - are increasingly willing to shape their historically recognizable attitudes and positions according to current issues. This trend is partially shaking the stability of the Swedish party system, but it is still not completely undermining it, as can be seen in the outcome of the elections.
