Abstract
To be presented by the Helsinki Concert Hall (Helsingin Musiikkitalo) in October 2024, Otherhood is a 30-minute song cycle incorporating the latest Bluetooth technology to create an immersive exploration and commentary on the genre of lied, past, present, and future. The work was commissioned by the Suomen Kulttuurirahasto [Finnish Cultural Foundation], the major funding body for creative work in Finland. The subject matter of the project is the blurring of identity as a central aspect of the lied genre and the intervention of technology as a way of contextualising the performance of lied in 2024 as part of a historical narrative and practice.
