Abstract

This study garnered initial evidence for the pro-civic impact of the Internet in mainland China by analyzing three cross-sectional datasets collected in 2003, 2005, and 2007. Results revealed positive relationships between the two dimensions of Internet use (i.e., informational and entertainment use) and online expression. Our model explains the positive associations as being partially conditioned by two mediators, online network size and Internet efficacy.
