Abstract
“The everyday objects that surround us, now obsolete gadgets, and unused remnants are reborn and take on new meaning in the hands of contemporary sound creators.” From this premise emerges Old Things Resonate New #1, the first part of a diptych in collaboration with the Melos New Vocal Music Collective from Vilnius, Lithuania.
Exploring unconventional territories of normality, Old Things Resonate New #1 will be presented in Madrid with instrumental works specifically created for this project by Catherine Kontz (Luxembourg, 1976), Matías F. Rosales (Talca, Chile, 1988), Francisco Martín-Quintero (Huelva, Spain, 1969), and Eduardo Caballero (Mexico, 1976).
The second part will take place on October 4 in Vilnius, as part of the Lithuanian Autumn Festival of Contemporary Music, with a metamorphosis involving three new world premieres for the expanded ensemble and women’s vocal choir of the Melos New Vocal Music Collective, by Lithuanian composers Snieguolė Dikčiūtė, Aistė Vaitkevičiūtė, and Liepa Vozgirdaitė.
A total of eight new creations transition from instrumental to vocal music, from closed to open composition, and from conventional notation to improvisation, creating unexpected sound pathways through everyday explorations.
