Abstract

With the growth of the Greater Bay Area (GBA) as a metropolitan area, the increasingly fluid flow of capital and economic activities is expected to further stimulate labour and family migration. When the massive influx of migrant population has brought not only blessings but also social issues to be solved for mega cities such as Guangzhou and Shenzhen in the past decades, how the increasingly neoliberalized social welfare system handles the intensified service demand from the migrant population nowadays deserves further scrutiny. As a pilot study, this research collected the registration information of around 300 migrant-serving organizations in the GBA cities from the government registries and attempts to understand the current service landscape by visualizing their locations on an online map application, and analyzing their intended scopes of services and target population.
