Abstract
Affective polarization has intensified in many countries. This study tested a moderated mediation framework to examine how political news use influences affective polarization through political participation and how this relationship is moderated by political interest. Data from the Survey of the Presidential and Legislative Elections, 2024 (TEDS2024) during the 2024 Taiwan presidential election (N = 1,206) were analyzed. The authors found that political news use is positively related to affective polarization, with the polarizing effect mediated by political participation. Moreover, political interest can further reinforce affective polarization by mobilizing a high level of political participation.
