Abstract
Recent trends in international research on Artifcial Intelligence (AI) highlight the need for international ethical evaluations of AI. This chapter introduces the work of this volume—an intercultural dialogue on AI from Eastern and Western perspectives, emerging from an international conference in Hong Kong in 2023. The contributions in this volume represent genuine intercultural and international collaboration, and, as such, pose rich opportunities for policy makers, industry leaders, and academics alike to advance comparative ethical refections. Perspectives include Confucian, Daoist, Buddhist, Western and Eastern Christian, Aristotelian and (post-)liberal positions, and focuses on AI ethics documents, large language models, sexbots, art, ghost workers, and existential threats. The following chapters can be read as individual contributions, though we believe they are better
