Abstract
In 2015 P. C. Lo and Sumner Twiss published their co-edited volume Chinese Just War Ethics: Origin, Development, and Dissent (Routledge, 2015; paperback, 2016). It covered the major ancient Chinese intellectual traditions and texts on warfare ethics and compared these in varying degrees of depth with the Western just war tradition. With this sequel volume and with a third co-editor we extend beyond the range of our earlier work, especially temporally (into the 19th and 20th centuries, and even dipping in the 21st century). Although China and the West are still our lodestones for comparative purposes, we also include some attention to Japan and a few other traditions for contrastive reflection.
