Abstract

As a consumer psychology researcher, I created a General Education Capstone course titled “Children as consumers: Marketing to the Youth”. One of the course learning outcomes is to acquire research skills through experiential learning. I designed three blended learning research activities in this course. Students practiced various research skills, including applying approval from the Research Ethics Committee, interviewing, transcribing, identifying themes from qualitative data, and secondary data analysis. Students’ work generated one conference paper, four teaching videos, and four social marketing campaign proposals. Students answered a short questionnaire to give feedback on their perception of the blended learning activities and the group research project for designing the social campaign. The blended learning activities were replicable for larger classes.
