Abstract

This study is an experiment (N = 87) that investigated the impact of three mood states – happy, sad or neutral – upon the way people process news information. After an effective mood induction procedure, the experiment discovers that changes of mood states produce significant differences in processing news information. The data also suggest that mood directs people’s attention and valence cues to different types of information in the news – global or local information.
