Abstract
This study explored the joint impact of comment moderation and user comments on perceived media bias and hostile media perception. Conducted via a 2 (preexisting attitude) × 2 (moderation cue) × 3 (comment section) population-based online survey experiment in the US (N = 315), results revealed bias perception favoring gun control. Exposure to incongruent comments heightened hostile media bias, with moderation mitigating bias for anti-gun control participants in neutral sections.
