Abstract

Improving the visual contrast in OLED displays is another important issue to address with a significant technological implication. The use of a gradient refractive index anode shows promise for contrast improvements in OLEDs. If only one type of material is used, e.g., ITO, the thickness and the reflective index of the anode materials can be varied with a desired gradient to form an optically absorbing and electronically conducting anode for high contrast OLEDs. This technique provides a cost-effective approach for achieving high contrast OLEDs.
