Abstract

Focuses on factories in domestic premises (FID), Hong Kong's informal manufacturing sector. The paper concentrates on its major properties as an urban land use, viz: 1) the industrial structure and business characteristics of the FID; 2) their accommodation characteristics 3) factors affecting their locations within the urban area; and 4) the environmental problems they caused and their policy implication. More should be learned regarding the impact of the informal manufacturing secotr on town planning and its contribution to the urban economy. -from Author
