Abstract
During the outbreak of the Pacific War as part of the Second World War, Hong Kong was turned into a battlefield for 18 days. This research project centered around this incident in 1941, utilizing advanced geo-spatial technology to locate and explore the lost relics scattered across various hills in Hong Kong. Since these artifacts are remote from the city and even hiking trails, reaching them poses a certain level of risk. To enhance students’ experience of the artifact environment, we employ technologies to transform it into a Cave Automatic Virtual Environment (CAVE) immersive augmented reality environment. The objective of this paper is to explore and analyze the learning experiences of students who engage with this technology. The analysis reveals that appropriate use of technology and thoughtful instructional design can effectively enhance the Hybrid Geo-CAVE learning environment. Furthermore, comprehensive and holistic learning facilitation, encompassing pre-class, in-class, and post-class support that meets educational needs, is crucial. Additionally, personalized and customized learning delivery designs can align individual differences among students, enhancing their learning effectiveness. Moreover, it is recommended to explore additional hybrid dimensions to create a more dynamic and engaging learning environment that aligns with individual needs and fosters effective learning outcomes.
