Abstract
An open-access Chinese Medicinal Material Images Database (CMMID) is constructed to serve as a convenient online tool for classroom teaching, student self-study and life-long learning. The database contains over 420 species of representational CMM with real images and detailed descriptions of each CMM. The macroscopic and microscopic identifications are presented through illustrations. It delivers perceptual and systematic knowledge, inspires student interest and enhances their memory. High-quality photos reproduce accurately the actual hue and strong stereo sense of the CMM.
In addition to benefiting HKBU students, CMMID is a good e-learning tool for any Chinese Medicine learners around the world. Resource sharing promotes effective collaboration, advances the popularization and internationalization of Chinese Medicine (CM) and infuses this traditional science with vigour and life.
