Abstract
"Endless Shift" is a kinetic installation that interrogates the evolving relationship between human craft, machine production, and algorithmic intelligence. Taking the form of an industrial conveyor belt, the work carries a continuous loop of meticulously crafted watch dials linked by metal straps. These dials, symbols of precise temporal measurement, are fabricated through a hybrid methodology: Generative AI (GenAI) patterns depicting Hong Kong's traditional dim sum culture are laser-cut from natural wood veneers and hand-inlaid with iridescent mother-of-pearl. The conveyor motor, encased in a rigid metal grid, serves as a metaphor for the constrained yet relentless power of the algorithm. By placing aura-laden, artisanal objects onto a mechanism of mass reproduction, the installation traces the trajectory of industrial revolutions from mechanization (1.0) to the GenAI era (5.0). It proposes that in the age of algorithmic generation, the "Aura" of traditional Intangible Cultural Heritage is not destroyed but relocated to the cognitive and material friction of human-AI co-creation.
