Editorial: One climate, one urban, one health

Climate change represents one of the most severe challenges confronting humans in the 21st century. Cities are both the primary drivers of the climate crisis and the foremost bearers of its health impacts. How to create sustainable cities has become an urgent global imperative. Based on the "One Climate, One Urban, One Health" conceptual framework, we launch the special issue "To Create Sustainable Cities: Focusing on Climate and Health", which advocates for interdisciplinary research within the "Climate-Urban-Health" nexus. The studies published in this special issue provide in-depth explorations of the impacts and underlying mechanisms of climate change and rapid urbanization on human health. Multiple articles underscore that the construction and development of sustainable cities necessitates the integration of climate resilience and health equity. This requires not only the integration of interdisciplinary frameworks spanning epidemiology, urban planning, and climate science, but also the implementation of context-specific interventions that address local risks. Furthermore, enhanced policy coordination across climate action, health governance, and equity objectives is essential. This special issue is not only a starting point, but also a catalyst for action. Only by adopting integrated, synergistic, and transboundary global and local actions, can we transform the vision of "Sustainable Cities" into a tangible, measurable reality.
