Abstract

The genetic relationship between two closely related taxa of Asian Plagiochilae was determined using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis. Six arbitrary 10 base pair primers produced 43 amplified products. Plagiochila detecta sp. nov. shares 23 % of its amplified products with P. trabeculata Steph. RAPD proved to be a useful tool to detect genetic relationships between these closely related taxa. Plagiochila detecta, treated as a new taxon, is illustrated and described. Plagiochila f. stipulata Inoue is synonymous with P. detecta.
