Abstract

Polycrystalline perovskites La2/3Ba1/3MnO 3-δ with different oxygen deficiency δ(0≤δ≤0.10) have been prepared by a modified sol-gel method and their Curie temperatures and magnetocaloric effect have been studied. A close relationship is confirmed to hold between the Curie temperature and the oxygen stoichiometry. The maximum magnetic entropy change is in the order of 2. 7 J/kgK and peaks at Curie temperature for La2/3Ba 1/3MnO3 upon 10 kOe applied field change. For the samples with oxygen deficiency, a reduction of the maximum magnetic entropy change has been observed.
