Abstract

Intranets and their applications to internal communications have been of interest to academics and professional managers alike in the recent past. A generic measure to aid PR managers in measuring the effectiveness of their intranets has been reported, but there have been no replications thus far to confirm the psychometric properties of this scale. In addition, little is known about how effective intranets might enhance an organization's ability to disseminate information internally. This article discusses the results of an empirical study, which confirms the reliability and validity of the generic measure. Results also show that an effective intranet significantly enhances information dissemination within organizations. Managerial implications and avenues for future research are identified.
