    Abstract

Introduction Indigenous and cultural considerations have been extensively discussed in the field of psychotherapy for the past two decades, (Kuo, 2004; Duan et al., 2011; Moir-Bussy, 2014). Thus, when we apply solution focused therapy (SFT) to Chinese clients in Hong Kong, we have to first understand Chinese cultural values. In this chapter, we will share some of the important cultural values that affect the counselling of Chinese clients and the appropriateness of SFT in the Chinese cultural context. We will also share clinical examples of using SFT in Hong Kong that will illustrate the use and adaptation of the approach as needed so as to sensitively and effectively take the cultural values into account.
