Abstract

Masterpieces that leave a significant impact on art history often set new trends. Art that is rooted in history yet transcends tradition is usually the most vibrant. “Art Hong Kong” focuses on and showcases this kind of art. This year's theme, “Art Unites the World, Culture Connects the Past and Present,” reflects our aspirations for the role of art.

The long history of Chinese art is a confluence of various influences, showcasing both the continuity of mainstream traditions and the diversity of regional characteristics. This year, “Art Hong Kong” highlights the regional arts of Guizhou and Hong Kong to demonstrate the unity and diversity of Chinese art. The beautiful harbour of Hong Kong and the spectacular natural scenery of Guizhou complement each other, enhancing the artwork through the uniqueness of each region. Integrating technology with art is a crucial aspect of contemporary art and an essential way for museums to interpret and display works today. This year’s “Art Hong Kong” includes pieces created by artists utilizing new technologies, as well as technological interpretations of classic artworks. Art and technology share a common origin and will inevitably coexist.
