Abstract
The works of the compositional cycle Archipelago Sierpinski are inspired by the combination of the name of a writer that I admire and a fictional or real place with which I have a personal connection. In this cycle, all the instruments are modified and I seek to explore in depth the possibilities of modular structures. Therefore, the structure of the pieces is modular and the structure of the whole cycle is modular. Archipelago Sierpinski is a collection of collections, or using a metaphor, each work is an “archipelago,” and the whole cycle is an “archipelago” that is why the title alludes to the self-similar fractal, known as the Sierpinski triangle.
Helicoide/Bellatin consists of seven (7) ‘Islands’ or sections (I, II, III, IV, V, VI & VII) that can be performed continuously in any order; therefore, the piece must be perceived as a single movement, under no circumstances the work must be performed in such a way that changes of sections are perceived as such.
All ‘Islands’/sections can be performed simultaneously with sections from Aira/Sonora [indicated in brackets]. Some ‘Islands’/sections [indicated in brackets] can be performed simultaneously with ‘Islands’/sections from Uslar/Gorong, Ungar/Comala and Baikal/Sorokin.
