Abstract

In this chapter, we firstly present the concept of microfluidics and a general scope of its applications in biomedical science and engineering. Then we introduce the topic of this chapter: smart microfluidic systems in tissue engineering. Unlike conventional microfluidic devices, this sort of system possesses unique functions that are not owned by them. As a result, they are emerging as new tools in this field. In detail, we list some intriguing smart microfluidic systems and describe their applications in tissue engineering based on the type of stimuli they respond to.
