An analysis of the impact of the growth of institutional investors on the Hong Kong stock market

Research output: Other contribution

Abstract

This dissertation adopts the approach that Davis and Steil (2001) used in measuring the development of financial intermediaries by its overall size in proportion to gross domestic product of an economy. Data collected from the local authorities during the period from 1991 to 2000 had shown that there was a staggering increase of institutional investors. Market trading records extracted from Transaction Surveys of Hong Kong Stock Exchanges and Clearing Limited also indicated that overseas institutional investors were the dominant players in the stock market of Hong Kong.
