Abstract

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19COVID-19) pandemicPandemic created an unprecedented stress on healthcareHealthcaresystemsSystem around the world. Because critical healthcareHealthcare resources became severely constrained, especially during the early pandemicPandemic, approaches to increase supply chain efficiencyEfficiency took center stage. The concepts of connected healthConnected health, blockchainBlockchain, and other related technological advances provided some unique opportunities to address this once-in-a-generation international health securityInternational health security challenge. This chapter focuses on solutions that integrate blockchainBlockchainand connected healthConnected health to more effectively address the COVID-19COVID-19 crisis. An overview of connected healthConnected health is first presented, followed by an introduction of blockchainBlockchaintechnologyTechnology. Subsequent discussion focuses on the integration of blockchainBlockchainand connected healthConnected health (i.e., BeCH) for addressing various aspects and challengesChallenge of the COVID-19COVID-19pandemicPandemic. Specific case studies of BeCH are also presented.
